Quinn Building Products Environmental Structure and Initiatives
Quinn Building Products recognises the value of the area in which it operates and that it has allowed the manufacturing facilities to flourish. It respects the natural beauty of the area and is committed to control impacts of its operations with the aim of preserving the area’s integrity though the operation life and aftercare of each Division.
All Divisions within Quinn Building Products have an environmental management system (EMS) in place to manage the operations within each facility and their potential impact on the environment.
The EMS includes a parent Environmental Policy committing to compliance with environmental law, protection of the environment and continual improvement in environmental performance on an ongoing basis.
There is a parent Group Manual which outlines how the environmental management system is to achieve its goal consistent with the Policy commitment. Stemming from this there are specific procedures, divisional policy commitment, a register of relevant legislation, environmental aspect risk assessments, objectives and targets and systems for achieving improved performance on an ongoing basis within each respective Division. These elements form the basis of the system for ensuring optimum management of the environmental aspects within each Division.
Each Division is bound by the conditions of operation as outlined by respective Regulatory Bodies both in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK as appropriate. It varies for respective divisions and the nature and complexity of the operations but includes planning conditions, IPPC licences, PPC permits, discharge and abstraction consents.
As demonstration of the above points some of the Building Products Divisions have achieved accreditation to the internationally recognised standard for best environmental management – ISO14001.
Quinn Building Products operate a hierarchy of preferred options to manage waste streams arising. This involves the elimination or the reduction of waste arising where possible, reuse and recycling of waste on site, or on failing this recovery through recycling or reuse offsite with the least preferred option being disposal to landfill.
The Company is also committed to sustainable operations and development and has pioneered many Green Initiatives within its respective Divisional Fields that ensure that the impacts on the environment are managed and controlled and that the products are manufactured with a high level of consideration for resource management and thought for the environment.
Quinn Building Products is proud of its standing as a market leader in its field but it is also committed to growth and development into the future with consideration for sustainability and control of its impact on the environment. We encourage and promote environmental awareness among staff within the Company and are happy to make provisions to encourage employee initiative and enthusiasm and recognises that everybody has a part to play.
